There wasn't much "bull riding" on Saturday.

The second night of the Coors Bull Riding Classic took place at the Holum Expo Center on Saturday. There were 12 qualified rides in the long go-round on Friday night. However, on Saturday. there were only five qualified rides all night.

"I think people are just a little tired today," Leola bull rider Jared Schaeffer said. "Everybody rode well last night. Everybody is just a little more sore today -- a little more tired, I think."

There were only four qualified rides in the long go-round out of 35 riders at the event. Schaeffer was not one of the qualified rides in the first round. Schaeffer -- and seven other bull riders -- advanced to the short go-round based on their time in the long go-round. Schaeffer was again bucked off during his initial ride in the second round. However, he was awarded a re-ride and he took advantage as he scored an 89 on the bull. It was the only qualified ride in the short go-round.

"When you get a second chance," Schaeffer said, "you take advantage of it. That is pretty much about it. Your motor is pumping a little more. You have got that adrenaline rush a little more. It kind of gives you a little more boost."

It was the second night in a row that the bull brought good luck to a rider. Timber Lake graduate Dane Maher scored a 91 on Friday night on the same bull to share high-point honors for the night.

"I knew he was a good bull," Schaeffer said. "He is just one that you have to stick it to him. If you make the right move, you are going to score big."

Another Timber Lake grad, John Jacobs, was also awarded a re-ride in the long go-round. He took advantage and scored an 84, which was the top score for the first round.

"The first round I had a good bull," Jacobs said. "I kind of over-rode him. I thought for a second I was going to get bucked off. My body recovered and then I rode the heck out of him. Luckily it worked out well."

Just after Schaeffer scored his 89 in the short go-round, Jacobs then had the last ride of the night. He just about rode the bull, but was bucked off just before the eight-second whistle went off.

"The second one, I couldn't believe that bull bucked me off," Jacobs said, "I thought he was going to be really good. I just didn't focus."

The bull-riding stock was once again provided by the Mosbrucker Rodeo Company.

"They just brought a good bunch of bulls," Jacobs said. "Every bull riding is different. Like last night was really good and then tonight it wasn't as many rides."
