Northern State dominated Minnesota-Crookston in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference baseball doubleheader on Sunday.
The Wolves won the first game 21-4 and won the second 22-1 to complete the sweep. NSU improves to 11-11 overall 4-4 in NSIC play, while Crookston drops to 0-25 overall and 0-12 in NSIC action.
Northern took care of the Golden Eagles early and often en route to the two victories. The Wolves pounded out 21 hits in game one and added 17 more in the second game.
Clayton Nutting had himself a game in game one. He finished 4-for-5 at the plate, had a single, a double and a triple. He drove in six runs and scored two runs. Maurice Rodriquez and Trevor Sporrer were just as solid for the Wolves. Rodriquez went 4-for-4 at the plate, drove in six runs and scored four runs. Sporrer went 5-for-5 at the plate, scored four runs and drove in a run. Robbie Rocamora had two hits and drove in a run. Derek Tymesen, Buddy Taxler and Nate Russell all had hits. Taxler and Russell both drove in a run apiece.
NSU's Sean Winslow picked up the win. He fanned five batters in four innings of work, while allowing only one hit.
Northern's bats were just as strong in game two. Cameron Lehner drove in five runs on two hits. Lehner had a double and home run in the second game. Rodriquez went 2-for-3 and drove in four runs. Brent Lawrence drove in three runs and scored two runs. Rocamora had a triple and a home run. The Wolves scored five runs each in the first and fourth innings on their way to blowing the game open.
Clint Manzo improved to 3-1 on the year. He pitched six hits, scattered seven hits and struck out three batters.
Northern and Crookston will play again today in another NSIC double header.
