"He's a winner," White River head coach Eldon Marshall said, and the numbers certainly back him up.
Krogman, a Black Hills State commit, has started at the point for the Tigers boys basketball team for four years and was a major contributor off the bench as an eighth-grader. Over that five-year span, Krogman helped lead the Tigers to a 117-13 record, three Class B state championships and two runner-up finishes.
"He just loves to play and he's had those two older brothers, so it kind of runs in the family," Marshall said of Krogman and his brothers Jake and Louie. "I think those guys might have been pretty tough on him growing up, but it's paid off in the long run. He loves to compete and he loves to play."
Krogman, a three-time Class B all-state first-team selection, heads up the 2013 South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association Class B all-state team after leading White River to its fifth state championship and averaging 17.8 points, 7.2 assists and 3.4 steals per game.
"More than anything, he's a great person. Great kid, very coachable, good student, always there and does whatever is asked of him. He knows what he needs to do to help the team," Marshall said. "He puts the team first and that's always huge when you've got a point guard on the floor with those qualities."
Another guard with winning qualities who made the first team for the second straight year is James Valley Christian's Adam Hofer. Hofer, a Dakota State commit, averaged 23.2 points per outing and was named the Spirit of Su award winner at the Class B state tournament. He is the Vikings' all-time leading scorer with 1,839 points.
"Adam is one of the hardest-working players I've ever coached and his intensity in practice and during the off-season has made him the player he is today," JVC head coach Darwin Hofer said. "Adam leads by example on and off the court for his teammates and his basketball knowledge and leadership in practice and during games has been a major reason for the success of our team for the last few seasons."
Hofer's teammate, 6-foot-4 forward Nathan Wedel, was also named to the first team this season after averaging 17.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.
"Nathan's hard work and desire to improve has really made him a standout player," Darwin Hofer said. "Nathan has the ability to play all five positions on the court in every game. He can handle the ball, shoot 3s, slash to the basket and post up. His rebounding and ability to defend in the post, wing and point guards makes him such a versatile player. His strength is that he causes match-up problems for our opponents."
Very few players in South Dakota caused as many problems for opponents as Dupree guard Nate Widow. The 6-foot senior averaged a Class B-best 25 points per game and scored 1,157 in three years with the Tigers.
"Nate is a player that makes his teammates better," Dupree head coach Jim Hood said. "He is a team player, a great student of the game and when he goes, our team goes. He's also very coachable."
The fifth member of the first team is Canistota guard Alex Robertson. The 5-9 senior was a second-team selection last season as a junior and averaged 16.5 points and 5.1 assists per game.
The members of the second team are Langford sophomore Bo Fries, White River senior Joe Cameron, Harding County senior Ckyler Floyd, Viborg-Hurley senior Trevor Jacobsen and Centerville sophomore Seamus O'Malley.
Third team selections are Leola/Frederick senior Brian Sumption, Viborg-Hurley senior Andrew Hora, Canistota senior Cody Bunger, Faith senior Cody Trainor and Kimball/White Lake senior Jesse Taylor.
Bunger and Taylor are repeat third-team selections from last season.
