College baseball: ND State tops NSU

MINNEAPOLIS -- North Dakota State scored its runs early and held off Northern State 5-2 in the first half of a college baseball doubleheader Saturday at the Metrodome.

 Results of the second game, in progress at press time, were not available.

 The Bison tagged Northern State pitcher Clint Manzo for two runs in each of the first two innings, building a 4-1 lead. The Wolves got a run in the second with an RBI single from Trevor Sporrer, and added a run in the third on back-to-back doubles from Robbie Rocamora and Cameron Lehner, but could get no closer.

 Kyle Kleinendorst and Nick Altavilla each had two of NDSU's six hits. Northern State had seven hits in the game, with two each for Rocamora and Buddy Traxler. Manzo was tagged for five runs, four of them earned, in four innings with three walks and two strikeouts.

 The Wolves are scheduled to return to action next weekend, traveling back to Minnesota for a doubleheader on March 29-30 at Minnesota State, Mankato.
