University of South Dakota runner and Eureka native Jeff Mettler has been named the Summit League Indoor Track Athlete of the Year.
Mettler became the first track and field athlete in South Dakota school history to earn an Indoor Athlete of the Year award and was also the first Coyote to be named one of the indoor championship MVPs. The junior led the Coyotes to their first Summit League Indoor Track and Field title, marking the first league crown for USD in any sport.
He won the mile (4:11.18) and the 3,000 meters (8:18.69) at the league championships and finished third in the 5,000 meters (14:40.28). Mettler tallied a league-high three Athlete of the Week honors and finished the season with league-best times in the 3,000 meters (8:09.82) and 5,000 meters (14:08.74) and ranked third in the league in the mile (4:08.02).
