For a second consecutive season, Pierre senior Zach Hanson has been named the Gatorade South Dakota Boys' Basketball Player of the Year.
The 6-foot-9 Hanson led the Governors to a 20-5 record and their first State AA boys' basketball title in school history and their first state title in 31 years. The Creighton recruit averaged 19.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game this season. Hanson is the first two-time winner of the award and the first Governor basketball player to earn the award. Hanson's mother Jane (Konz) Hanson played college basketball for Northern State.
